Pretty much all of my clients since I started, have said something like that line in the title to me! We have been training and they see someone do some really hard whilst we are in a break in their session (which generally is challenging them!) or I have talked about what you can do with certain kit or things I have done, not to brag but more as an example!
There are endless variations:
"I can't do that!"
"You're not going to make me do that are you?"
"That's mental, I couldn't do that!"
"I wish I could do that!"
"Wow, that's amazing but I could never do that!"
You get the picture, you may have said something similar yourself! I know I said a few myself when I think back but nowadays I say "I want to be able to do that!" and I know I'll have to work at it until I did it but that doesn't stop me!
You might remember a post I did about the number of events I've done over the last few years, click here to give it a read.
Well when I did that first event, there were SO MANY obstacles I couldn't do because I wasn't strong enough, I didn't believe in myself or have the mental strength to try. But over the years this has got better because of not only my physical strength of my body but also my mental strength. The last event I completed in June was a Wolf Run and I completed all the obstacles bar one! Which was a pretty big achievement! And I am proud of my body and I love it for the amazing things it does!
YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU PUT YOUR MIND TOO!
Especially when it comes to fitness, anything is possible but it doesn't come easy. You need to put work in, you need to be patient and you need to be consistent! Nothing is going to happen over night. You're not going to magically lose a stone in a week and keep it off and in the same breath you're not going to be able to do every exercise on the first try. A pull up doesn't happen without work and neither does a six pack. You might need to start with an easier variation to begin with and progress to the full harder version. But be proud of what you can do right now and work for the things you want to be able to do!
THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO DO SOMETHING!!!!
We are all beginners at some point and we are all humbled by certain exercises and we will all find different things difficult but that is part of the great thing about the human race we are all different.
