Saturday's Healthy Snack - 26/5

So for the first Saturday session I have gone for the Cacao and Almond Slice! I enjoyed it and I hope those who have sampled it did too!

It tastes indulgent but is packed full of so many good things that it is a great weekend treat and especially on a BANK HOLIDAY!

You can see the list of benefits below. Yes it is high in fats however they are good fats that are you going to get many benefits from and not those that are going to cause you harm. The saturated fats in the coconut oil, where most of it is coming from, are going to help improve your heart health and your good cholesterol levels as well as reduce your levels of bad cholesterol. What more can you ask right?

Cacao and Almond Slice

For this little gem you contains:

  • 1 cup virgin coconut oil

  • 1/2 cup raw cacao powder

  • 1 heaped tbsp natural almond butter

  • 1/2 cup raw honey

  • 2/4 cup slivered almonds

It gives you the following benefits:

  • 180-190 calories per serving

  • 3-5g carbs

  • 15-18g fat

  • 2-3g protein

  • Coconut oil - does a whole host of things for you; helps increase good cholesterol and reduce bad cholesterol, reduces the risk of heart disease and promotes heart health, protects the liver, boosts the immune system, helps improve memory and brain function, improves energy levels and endurance and improves type 2 diabetes. It quite brilliant!

  • Cacao Powder - contains high levels of antioxidants which absorb free radicals, helps to prevent cancer, a plant source of iron, a good source of magnesium and calcium and it is a good mood elevator and anti-depressant.

  • Almond butter - contains healthy fats and fibre, calcium, vitamin E and magnesium.

  • Maple syrup - Contains a great many micro nutrients such as Manganese, zinc, calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium and antioxidants. It helps fight inflammatory diseases and is a healthy alternative to sugar and has a lower GI than sugar.
