Healthy Snack - 22/5

Right here we go, a little later than planned so apologies for that! But I think you will agree once you have read below that it will be worth the wait and the early wake up call on a Tuesday!

The first healthy snack is..... drum roll please......

Cacao and Almond Slice

For this little gem you contains:

  • 1 cup virgin coconut oil

  • 1 cup raw cacao powder

  • 1 cup natural almond butter

  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup or raw honey

  • 3/4 cup slivered almonds

It gives you the following benefits:

  • 191 calories per serving

  • 5.6g carbs

  • 15.9g fat

  • 5g protein

*the above is approx.

  • Coconut oil - does a whole host of things for you; helps increase good cholesterol and reduce bad cholesterol, reduces the risk of heart disease and promotes heart health, protects the liver, boosts the immune system, helps improve memory and brain function, improves energy levels and endurance and improves type 2 diabetes. It quite brilliant!

  • Cacao Powder - contains high levels of antioxidants which absorb free radicals, helps to prevent cancer, a plant source of iron, a good source of magnesium and calcium and it is a good mood elevator and anti-depressant.

  • Almond butter - contains healthy fats and fibre, calcium, vitamin E and magnesium.

  • Maple syrup - Contains a great many micro nutrients such as Manganese, zinc, calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium and antioxidants. It helps fight inflammatory diseases and is a healthy alternative to sugar and has a lower GI than sugar.

  • Almonds - much like almond butter, the nut themselves contain healthy fats, a great list of micro nutrients and are a good source of protein.

That is quite a list of benefits from this little snack. Yes it is high in fats however they are good fats that are you going to get many benefits from and not those that are going to cause you harm. The saturated fats in the coconut oil, where most of it is coming from, are going to help improve your heart health and your good cholesterol levels as well as reduce your levels of bad cholesterol. What more can you ask?

I think this will fast become a Strong Bird fav! I'll keep you posted!
